Ford Fiesta ECOneticTreeHugger and Businessweek report that Ford will not import to the US its new eco-friendly diesel edition of the Fiesta ECOnetic subcompact car. With seats to five, and an astonishing 65mpg this could be the reason why people will mention Ford on the same page as Toyota and Honda. But wait a minute: this vehicle won’t be available for the US consumer for two simple reasons: USD’s current low value undermines the profit of imports, and the company says that US consumers don’t like diesels at all. They look at hybrid as the next generation (have a look at Prius’ success) and consider diesel engines an old technology. I don’t know about you, but 65mpg doesn’t seem like an old tech for me… It will be available in Europe and Japan this November.
